ABOUT ME
JAMES HOYTE
With a strong foundation in sports science and an extensive background in strength and conditioning, I am passionate about helping individuals and teams achieve their peak performance. I offer personalised 1-to-1 performance coaching and club performance consulting services, leveraging years of hands-on experience with elite athletes across various sports, including football, rugby, and hockey. My experience spans from high-pressure professional environments to recreational local clubs, ensuring I can deliver results for athletes of all levels and sports.
Currently, I serve as the Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach at Charlton Athletic FC, where I have also held responsibilities of Lead U21 Sports Scientist and have served as Interim Men’s First Team Strength and Conditioning Coach. At Charlton, I focus on developing individualised rehabilitation and performance enhancement programs for both fit athletes and those recovering from injury. This experience has given me the opportunity to handle the varied demands of different levels of athlete, from youth academy prospects to seasoned professionals.
Beyond football, I have worked with university BUCS-level athletes, including the women’s rugby team at the University of Exeter. I have also worked with national league level hockey players at Holcombe Hockey Club in Kent. My wide-ranging experience with athletes from different performance levels and sports ensures I can handle diverse needs and customise programs to suit each client’s specific goals and challenges, no matter the sport or the level.
My academic background further strengthens my coaching. I hold a First Class BSc (Hons.) in Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences from the University of Exeter, where I specialised in areas such as, strength and conditioning, training physiology and biomechanics. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning at St. Mary’s University, where I aim to graduate with distinction. My combination of practical experience and in-depth academic knowledge allows me to offer scientifically grounded, evidence-based strategies for performance enhancement and rehabilitation.
